Arkansas Unemployment Extension

An Arkansas unemployment extension became effective on July 6th, 2008 and is referred to as the emergency Unemployment Compensation benefit.  The unemployment extension was supposed to end on March 27th, 2009.  However, President Bush signed PL 110-449 (HR 6867) into law.  This law gave an additional seven weeks to the Arkansas unemployment extension that was originally set at 13 weeks.  The total Arkansas unemployment extension is now 20 weeks after an unemployed worker has completely drawn out their regular unemployment benefits.  The Arkansas unemployment extension became effective on January 25, 2009.

Arkansas Unemployment Extension Qualifications

To qualify for the Arkansas unemployment extension you must have a base wage period that is: equal to 40 times your weekly unemployment benefit amount.  1.5 times higher than your highest quarter or 20 weeks of full time work.

In addition, your regular benefit claim must have ended after May 1, 2007 and you must have used up all your benefits for that claim.  You can not have any rights to a regular unemployment benefit claim from any other state or federal unemployment compensation law.  Furthermore, you can not have received a Canadian unemployment benefit amount for any week after the above date.

An Arkansas Unemployment Extension Notice will be mailed to all remaining unemployed workers who may be eligible for the extension.  The notice will be mailed to your last known mailing address.
